Where Financial Wisdom Meets Your Favorite Mug
When I talk to my girlfriends, I always hear the same thing:
I'll Invest When..."
"When I understand what a P/E ratio is"
“When I have more money than just brunch budget"
“When I have time"
Sound familiar? Yeah, me too, once upon a time.
But when I first tried to get arvice?
What they say:
"Implement strategic asset allocation across diversified vehicles"
What I heard:
Charlie Brown teacher sounds
What they meant:
Buy different types of investments so all your eggs aren't in one basket"
Why do people love making money talk so hard to understand?
Let's Talk Timing
Current market headlines scream:
- "NASDAQ ENTERS CORRECTION TERRITORY!"
- "TARIFFS! RECESSION! PANIC!"
Meanwhile, seasoned investors shrug:
"Oh look, everything's on sale!"
So… should you buy now? Wait it out? Sell everything and live in a yurt?
It’s never a clear-cut answer—but here’s what we do know:
The Power of Starting Early
Meet Sarah and Jessica.
Sarah invests $200/month starting at age 30.
Jessica does the same but starts at age 40.
By age 65:
Sarah: $414,000
Jessica: $178,000
That’s a $236,000 difference—just for starting 10 years earlier. The example above assumes 7.8% annual rate of return, adjusted for inflation. That’s not magic. This is what compound interest looks like when it works FOR you, not against you on credit cards
Remember, your strategy matters more than your timing. You can start investing during any market condition - bull or bear. What counts is knowing how to show up: sometimes playing offense, sometimes defense.
Ready to Start? Good. But Let’s Be Real.
Once you’re ready to invest, you’ll hear a lot of advice—some great, some questionable. Be curious. Be skeptical. Yes, even of what you read here. That’s financial empowerment.
1. Invest in what you actually know
That moisturizer you swear by? Might be Estée Lauder (stock symbol: EL). Loyal to Target runs? That’s TGT!
But loving a brand ≠ knowing if it’s a good investment. Learn how to spot which stocks are worth holding long-term—and which ones are overpriced, even if they’re trendy.
2. Make friends with index funds
Like ordering the sampler platter instead of betting your money on one appetizer.
QQQ costs $484.38 per share as of 3/26/2025. If you only have $100 to invest this month, you might consider TQQQ at $63.38 per share. This leveraged ETF can deliver triple QQQ's returns in good years, but remember it also means triple the losses in bad years.
3. Set it and forget it
Auto-invest monthly and pretend that money never existed (like that gym membership you don't use)
Not every stock becomes Apple, Nvidia, or Berkshire Hathaway. These are the survivors, while most stocks actually underperform. There are always more losers than winners in the market. So no, you shouldn't just invest and forget - your portfolio requires regular attention and adjustment.
Be rational, be curious, be informed! We are ladies with good brains! Let's talk!
What to Expect from This Blog
No mansplaining. Ever.
Jargon-free zone (and if finance terms sneak in, I’ll translate)
Real talk about money without the judgment. Whether you’re just starting or leveling up.
Investment strategies that fit between Zoom calls and everything else you're juggling
What NOT to Expect from This Blog
No paid advice or “hot stock tips.” I’m not a financial advisor, and I don’t sell hype.
No false promises. Investing involves risk. There’s no secret strategy to millionaire status overnight or guarantee like making $200/day effortless
No politics. I’ll talk about policy where it impacts markets, but never push agendas.
